Mart was born in 1991, in a small village in the northern part of the Netherlands. The first time he was holding a camera was at a very young age. He was with his family at the Farne Islands, off the Northumberland coast. Seeing he was impressed by all the spectaculair birdlife around them. It was amazing that his father trusted his expensive camera to his sons but they operate very carefully. Mart was only taking pictures and don’t looked for compositions and other technical stuff but the results were very stimulating.
From that moment on, Mart and his father spent more time together in the field, taking pictures. He learnt a lot about the technique and create his own style and vision. He likes to experiment with his camera, for example with macro photography. After winning some important awards (BBC Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Glanzlichter and this year the IWP Award) Mart could invest in new equipment and further enhance his skills.
Nature photography became an important part of his life. Landscapes, animals or plants, everything in nature has his attention. Not only photography is important but especially the experience in nature. Not only close to his home but every year Mart visits interesting places in Scandinavia. This year a successful journey to the arctic area on the Barents sea. He likes to share his pictures in exhibitions, lectures and on his own website.
He wants to make people interested in nature with his pictures. To make them enthusiastic, the picture needs a story. To take such photos you have to know a lot about the subject. That’s why Mart is taking a course in ecotourism. His study is called “Eco and Wildlife”. He hopes to continue his career as a nature photographer and perhaps one day it will be his profession.
